In 1980, Hillerich & Bradsby, the maker of Louisville Slugger bats, devised an award to honor the best offensive player at each position. Major League managers and coaches use the three fields of the Triple Crown - batting average, home runs and runs batted in - and a combination of total bases when voting for each year's recipients. Presented is one of the six Silver Slugger Awards given to Mike Schmidt. This relic was presented to Schmidt for his stellar performance during the 1982 campaign. The award stands 35" from the base to the top of the bat. The silver-colored bat measures 33-1/2", and the wooden base is 24x10. The presentation plaque displays Mike Schmidt's name, position and year. For all the accolades collected by Schmidt over his Hall of Fame career, he is best known for his prowess at the dish, and this award is the perfect representation of that.
