Adrian “Cap” Anson was a pioneering superstar who became the first player to attain the 3,000 hit benchmark. Depicted near the culmination of a prolific career, this 1895 N300 Mayo’s Cut Plug is a magnificent portrayal of the fiery first basemen. Graded 50 VG-EX by SGC, the Anson card has seven other peers, with only three specimens besting the technical grade. Despite hints of corner and edge wear tracing the fragile black borders, this crease-free portrait is framed exceptionally well. The pitch-black reverse reveals a hint of paper pulling which does not diminish the spectacular eye appeal of this cornerstone card.
