The 1953-1954 Briggs Meats series are among the most coveted and elusive “hot dog” cards. Bolstered by unprecedented demand, this issue is at the epicenter of the fifties regional phenomenon. Released for wiener connoisseurs in the greater Washington DC area, a handful of cards from this (28) card set are shortprinted, making an elusive collector’s item that much more scarce. The offered shortprinted Gil Coan/Connie Marrero panel is a key piece amongst the Washingtonians. The Coan portion grades (FR) with two spots of surface paper loss and a single surface crease tracing through his image. The twirling Marrero grades (VG) with additional edge and frontal creasing. The panel reverse reveals multiple creases, some of which protrudes onto the front. Additionally, both the surface and reverse display moderate grease markings. The yellow type set amidst the luminescent red background carefully portrays the rich colors associated with this picturesque offering.
