Presented is a unique opportunity for the Phillies fan or vintage jersey collector in the form of a Bennie Bengough game-worn 1950 Philadelphia Phillies World Series home uniform and accessories. This remarkably complete grouping acquired from the family of Bengough includes the red pinstriped jersey with ”Phillies” on the chest. The coach's #11 is prominently displayed on the back of the jersey in red. The Wilson size 44 tag, in the shirt tail, is in excellent condition, and Bengough's name, chain-stitched in the collar, is also in high-grade. The pants are matching white with red pinstripes and retain the Wilson tagging along with ”Bengough” chain-stitched in the waist. The red hat with white ‘P’ retains its original form and Wilson tag while showing mild to moderate usage. Rounding out this fantastic collection is one of the undershirts worn by Bengough during the 1950 season (EX), the red stir-ups (EX-MT), the Brooks Athletic cleats, which are well-worn and show heavy usage (VG-EX), and the red belt with leather trim (EX). Bengough played in the Major Leagues for ten years, including a spot on the 1927 NY Yankees, then moved on to coaching, and by 1950 was with the legendary ‘Whiz Kids’ team. This is the finest 1950 Phillies home uniform ever offered at public auction, and coupled with the World Series provenance and the number of pieces in the ensemble, the collection is a true diamond in the rough. The shirt, pants and accessories display all the proper tags and markings consistent with known examples from the period.
