Offered is a very rare 1950 Russ "Mad Monk" Meyer Philadelphia Phillies game-worn road jersey. Few years in Philadelphia sports history are as significant to the true Phillies fans as 1950, because the “Whiz Kids” took the NL by surprise and captured the pennant. The offered jersey was worn during that magical season by pitcher Russ Meyer and then passed down to a minor league player in 1951, a custom quite common in that era. The grey flannel jersey has the name “Meyer” chain-stitched in collar, Wilson and size tags in tail and the original embroidered team name and #34 on back. There is mild wear present, including a small repaired tear in tail and a tiny slit on the back. This superb example of a very tough 1950 Phillies jersey is in high-grade considering age and usage, and is a prime display piece from one of the most lovable Phillies teams ever. The shirt has all the proper tags and markings, consistent with known examples from the period.
